The area around the Flower Hill has been inhabited since the settlers used the site as a religious camp in the 1840s, and there is evidence that it was inhabited before the settlers. After tribal disputes were settled by Sam Houston in 1844 and Indian raids on the area ceased, a new city of about 1,000 inhabitants and a church was founded. However, the residents were not incorporated until 1961, and after other new cities failed, HUD was foreclosed in 1972, as it ran into financial difficulties. Although efforts to establish a planned community failed in the early 1970s, the population increased considerably when Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport opened in the south in 1974.
